DESCRIPTION:
Thwaites & Reed Ltd., England for The Franklin Mint, "Sir Francis Drake Falling Ball Clock", 8 day, time only, weight driven movement with annular time display in an engraved spherical case suspended from a cast brass bracket mounted to a wood back board with engraved brass plaque.
CONDITION:
The clock case has some areas with small brown spots -- probably the protective lacquer over the brass which has gone bad. The back board has a few minor scratches and scuffs. The weight of the clock itself provides the power to the movement making this a form of gravity clock. The sphere does drop over time when it is hung on the wall, but the timekeeping function was not tested specifically.
